Zero Waste Trainee | Race to Zero Waste | San Francisco Bay Area, California
Our Zero Waste Trainee recruiting process is ongoing and is contingent on project needs. R20W projects include sorting and characterizing waste container contents. Zero Waste Trainees will work with the R20W team to sort post-consumer recycling, compost, and landfill to record contamination rates, produce waste diversion reports, and/or conduct waste audits. Race to Zero Waste is seeking enthusiastic and outgoing individuals to help assist at the events we work in the San Francisco Bay Area in California, including public education at Zero Waste Stations during events. The project helps to provide holistic, community-based waste management, zero waste education, and organization of waste materials generated at events. Race to Zero Waste will provide job training. Details about the position are as follows:
- You would be a Part-Time Employee.
- The pay rate is $26.25 per hour.
- Hours depend on the project.
- Most projects occur from March to October during the weekends with the highest need from May through September.
- No additional benefits as this position is Part-Time.
Responsibilities:
- Follow instructions from the Zero Waste Supervisor on sorting procedures and community outreach guidelines.
- Sort waste in accordance with the specific hauler of the event location.
- Assist with record-keeping of waste quantity, weight, contamination, and other metrics required for the project.

Through the Zero Waste Station Pop-up Campaign, you will help R20W facilitate zero waste education while maximizing the diversion of materials from landfill.
