Women in Cleantech and Sustainability (WCS) is seeking three dedicated and experienced professionals to join our Board of Directors. The Board Director, Development, role is crucial to secure the financial future of the organization so that we can achieve our mission.

Anticipated Start Date: Immediately, with onboarding beginning shortly after.  

About WCS

Founded in 2011, Women in Cleantech & Sustainability is a nonprofit 501(c)6 organization made up of nearly 3,000 professional women and men building a green economy.  Our members range from students and entry-level professionals to Founders, C-Suite executives, and investors.  

About the Role 

As a member of the Board of Directors for Women in Cleantech & Sustainability (WCS), you will play a crucial role in ensuring the financial sustainability and growth of the organization. Your primary responsibility will be to secure funds that enable WCS to fulfill its mission to advance women’s roles in the green economy.

Role Description

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Obtaining funds through donations, programming and event sponsorships, and/or corporate memberships.
  • Secure a minimum of $10,000 in funding in year one, with an increase in subsequent years.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with potential donors and sponsors.

Who you are: Skills and Experience 

  • Fundraising Expertise
    • Proven ability to raise money for non-profit organizations 
    • Experience in developing and executing successful fundraising strategies
  • Networking and Relationship Building 
    • Proactive networker comfortable with asking for financial support 
    • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with donors, sponsors, and corporate partners
  • Strategic Thinking and Sales Tactics 
    • Capacity to balance strategic planning with practical fundraising tactics 
    • Skill in identifying and capitalizing on fundraising opportunities

Experience & Qualifications

  • Required: Demonstrated success fundraising in the nonprofit sector
  • Strongly preferred: Prior board of director experience
  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience in relevant fields
  • A strong network within the cleantech and sustainability industries is highly recommended
  • Excellent organizational and follow-through skills 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strategic thinking
  • Passion for advancing women’s roles in the green economy
  • Ability to work independently while being a part of a team

Time Commitment & Expectations

  • Quarterly board meetings (Saturday mornings Pacific Time)
  • Quarterly leadership meetings (Tuesdays)
  • Reporting fundraising activity to the Board and Executive Committee in a timely manner
  • Three to five hours per week
  • Term: one year with potential for additional terms
  • Annual board member dues $100
