WCS Volunteer Marketing Co-Chair 

Position Type: Member of Women in Cleantech (WCS) Board of Directors

This is an unpaid volunteer position as part of a working board.

About WCS

Founded in 2011, Women in Cleantech & Sustainability is a nonprofit 501(c)6 organization made up of more than 5,000 professional women and men building the green economy.  Our members range from students and entry-level professionals to Founders, C-Suite executives, and investors.

As the Marketing Co-chair, you help run the Marketing committee and lead the marketing efforts for WCS. You are a member of the WCS Board and will be influencing the strategic direction of the organization. You work closely with the other Marketing Co-chair, committee board members, marketing volunteers, and coordinators to ensure that WCS has a strong brand and all events and programs are marketed effectively. You are also responsible for leading the group of volunteers that are part of the marketing committee.

Role Description

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Work closely with the other co-chair of marketing to divide up responsibilities
  • Work closely with the events and other committees to market upcoming events in advance on social media, the website, and the newsletter 
  • Determine most effective committee structure and help recruit volunteers to lead the different marketing efforts, including developing promotional content, social media planning, and website updates
  • Schedule marketing meetings and next steps for committee members 
  • Facilitate meetings 
  • Coach volunteer committee members 
  • Onboard new board members with the assistance of the Volunteer Manager, Marketing Coordinator and Secretary
  • Update the material on the WCS website so its timely and relevant 
  • Delegate administrative tasks to the marketing coordinator as needed 
  • Work with the board to define and articulate WCS organization & board priorities, vision, and goals
  • Promote awareness of and participation in DEI goals in committee 

Who you are: Skills and Experience 

The below skills are preferred but not required for consideration:

  • Experience in marketing, project management, people management, or similar fields
  • Enjoy meeting new people, facilitating Zoom calls and scheduling events
  • Maintain confidentiality of board issues and volunteer data
  • Passionate about empowering women in the cleantech and sustainability space
  • Social media marketing experience 
  • Experience in managing and leading a group of volunteers

  • 5 hours per week dedicated to WCS 
  • 1 year commitment 
  • Successful candidates will be required to sign a non-disclosure agreement
  • Fundraising goal of $2,500 for corporate membership/sponsorship 
  • Annual board dues

Volunteer Membership Co-Chair

About the Role: 

As Co-Chair you are a member of the Board of Directors and communicate and coordinate with other Board Members as well as oversee employees of WCS to manage membership engagement, membership specific marketing, coordination of bi-weekly committee meetings and monthly onboardings, efficiency, and effectiveness of all processes. You are a self starter who inspires others to work on your ideas and have passion to build teams. 

You are responsible for providing strategy and leadership to the Committee members and creating an excellent membership experience for our WCS individual and corporate members. You work closely with your Co-Chair to ensure things run smoothly and that the committee has the support it needs to excel. The Co-Chair plays a critical role in fostering communication, reporting back to the executive committee on progress, and ensuring proper management and utilization of tools and resources. 

Role Description

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Work with the Board to define and articulate WCS organization & board priorities, vision, and goals
  • Weekly meetings with Co-chair 
  • Facilitate biweekly Membership Committee meetings 
  • Oversee CSM to coordinate corporate member monthly onboarding
  • Mentor and inspire committee volunteers 
  • Onboard new volunteers with the assistance of the Volunteer Manager, Membership Customer Success Manager (CSM) and Secretary
  • Review membership reports by CSM and present data trends and new project proposals to Board at Leadership and Quarterly Board meetings
  • Delegate and manage administrative tasks to the CSM and other coordinators

Who you are: Skills and Experience 

The below skills are preferred but not required for consideration:

  • Experience in people management, project management, and has experience hiring and firing 
  • Enjoy meeting new people, facilitating Zoom calls and scheduling events
  • Protect confidentiality of Board discussions, corporate member and volunteer data
  • Passionate about empowering women in the cleantech and sustainability space
  • Fundraising experience for non-profit organizations or other 
  • Deepen interpersonal skills, particularly in leadership, mentorship, and recruitment

Volunteer Board Secretary

As the Board Secretary, you are the lead project manager for all the activities of the board. You will work with the Board of Directors, paid staff and contractors, and volunteers through this exciting time of growth and transition and build on systems. You are a member of the Executive Committee and help to oversee the coordination, efficiency, and effectiveness of the Board’s many committees. You work closely with the President, Vice President, Treasurer, Director of Events and Volunteer manager to ensure things run smoothly and each committee has the support it needs to excel. The secretary plays a critical role in fostering communication and ensuring proper management and utilization of important records. 

About the Role: 

The Secretary role is responsible for the administration and organization of the Board of Directors, as well as encouraging adherence to the society’s bylaws.

Who you are: Skills and Experience 

  • An organized and disciplined individual with experience in organizational and/or administrative tasks. 
  • Self-motivated and self-directed, with an ability to work unsupervised, problem-solve on the fly, and manage your own schedule with a fluctuating workload while meeting seasonal deadlines.
  • Have clear and concise communication skills to collaborate with others
  • Recruitment, onboarding and exit of board members
  • Annual Strategic Planning process
  • Promote awareness of and participation in DEI goals across committees
