Senior Consultant: Building Energy Research | 2050 Partners | Remote, California

2050 Partners is seeking a bright and highly capable Senior Consultant to design and implement building decarbonization and energy efficiency research projects throughout California. In this position you will develop research plans and strategies, oversee project implementation, and analyze project results to support the adoption of more stringent building energy Codes and Standards (C&S) in the areas of energy efficiency, demand flexibility, electric vehicle integration, and broader decarbonization strategies. You will work with C&S program staff to acquire and analyze code-relevant data from various primary (field and lab research) and secondary sources. You will oversee teams of engineers and technical consultants to conduct research in buildings throughout California. You will support long-term tactical planning efforts to help California achieve its energy and climate goals.

Responsibilities include:

  • Be a trusted advisor by providing pragmatic advice based on defensible data and analysis
  • Serve as day-to-day project lead for research projects, including liaising with clients, external stakeholders, and subcontractors
  • Manage project team, subcontractor workflows, and completion of final work products
  • Serve as lead author and/or contributor on reports, presentations, business development collateral, and proposals
  • Review, edit, and provide quality assurance for technical analysis and reports generated by subcontractors and consultants
  • Develop goals and objectives for successful code adoption and implementation and direct subcontractors and consultants on technical analysis needed to support those objectives
  • Solicit input from experts and stakeholders as needed to develop research plans, strategies, and budgets for new research projects
  • Identify new demonstration sites for field research and work with building owners and other stakeholders to secure research program participation agreements
  • Plan and conduct analysis of research results, including field data related to energy-using equipment and building systems
  • Support energy policy and regulation development, specifically building energy codes and standards
  • Identify subject matter experts and lead procurement of subcontractor resources to support projects
  • Coach and develop team members
  • Support business development efforts

Desired Qualifications:

  • Engineering or other technical/science bachelor’s degree(s) required
  • 7-12 years relevant experience (work and graduate program, if applicable)
  • Successful project management track record
  • Strong data management and analysis skills (MS Excel and/or advanced data analysis and visualization platforms)
  • Experience with building design, building energy codes, or appliance standards, especially Title 24
  • Fundamental understanding of economics, public policy, and governmental regulations
  • Outstanding analytical and conceptual skills
  • Highest ethical standards

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and writing skills
