Computational Software Engineer

What we’re looking for

We are looking for a computational software engineer who is comfortable extending a complex simulation codebase to enable new power systems analyses in our software. You will be responsible for implementing new models and algorithms for electric power grid state estimation and optimization. You will work with existing members of the Pearl Street team and partners to test, validate, and deploy our solutions for grid operations and planning. Ideally, you have industry and/or academic experience working on computational/numerical programming, modeling, and simulation.

What we value

  • Proficiency in C++; knowledge of Python is a plus
  • Significant experience in numerical methods for simulation and/or optimization
  • Familiarity with Git or other version control system
  • Knowledge of electronic design automation tools and methods is a plus
  • Knowledge of power systems is a plus
  • Knowledge of high-performance computing with sparse matrices is a plus
  • MS/PhD in EE/CE/ECE/CS is preferred

Frontend Software Engineer

What we’re looking for

We are looking for an experienced frontend or full-stack software engineer who is comfortable taking ownership of complex projects while collaborating with existing members of the team. We’re building a new app for planning a better grid, and you will play a leading role in implementing core user-facing functionality, including:

  • Visualizing grid data and simulation outputs
  • Building intuitive views for highly-technical simulation and optimization analyses
  • Writing portable code that runs on the web app and on desktop app

Your work will help users make decisions that improve the reliability and efficiency of the grid.

What we value

  • Proficiency with modern browser technologies (JavaScript, HTML, CSS, etc.) and frontend frameworks (React, Angular, etc.)
  • Experience interacting with RESTful web services
  • Familiarity with Git or other version control system
  • Strong analytical problem solving skills
  • A passion for learning, teaching, and building beautiful software
  • Experience with Python is a plus
  • Experience using Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or AWS is a plus
  • BS or higher in STEM field preferred
