Health, Safety and Environmental Specialist

Reporting to the Director of Health and Safety, the Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Specialist will be responsible for driving sustainable implementation and oversight of health, safety and environmental requirements in Li-Cycle operations.  As company growth continues, it is anticipated that the scope of this role will be expanded to include regional HSE support responsibilities for additional facilities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and implementation of HSE programs and action plans to ensure safe safe work procedures and sustainable operations
  • Provide necessary training, leadership, organization and control to meet the company’s HSE performance goal
  • sAssist in integrating Li-Cycle’s HSE management systems (e.g. ISO 14001 and ISO 45001) into ongoing operations
  • Oversee programs for periodic inspections, documentation and response to corrective actions for workplace occupational health and safety, and environmental requirements
  • Ensure all equipment and buildings owned or operated by the company comply with safety and fire regulations and any other Federal, Provincial/State and local regulations
  • Assist in conducting incident investigations as necessary, including coaching and support for root cause analysis and tracking corrective actions to completion
  • Coordinate procedures for pollution control, waste management, recycling, environmental management, conservation of resources and renewal energy
  • Promote and raise awareness of the impact of emerging environmental issues, whether legislated or best practices, on corporate, ethical and social responsibility
  • Keep up to date with changes in occupational health and safety, and environmental legislation and best practice initiatives
  • Additional projects and duties as assigned by management

Senior Process Engineer Lead

Li-Cycle is seeking a Senior Process Engineer Lead to act as the Process Engineering Lead for a new technology moving through our commercialization pipeline.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • The role will initially require the successful candidate to act as the Process Engineering Lead on the project consisting of the following responsibilities:
    • Review of testing and engineering work done to-date to identify gaps
    • Develop a pilot testing plan and support pilot testing to be carried out at Li-Cycle’s hydrometallurgical pilot plant
    • Ensure sufficient data is gathered during the pilot testing campaign for scale-up of the technology
    • The Process Engineering Lead role will include, but not be limited to, regular communication with the Li-Cycle R&D team and external contractors responsible for pilot testing
  • Following the pilot plant campaign, the successful candidate will transition to a Project Management role with the following responsibilities:
    • Plan for and manage all aspects of the project, including engineering, permitting, and construction
    • Manage project budget and schedule through all phases of the project
    • Regular reporting to Li-Cycle Senior Management and Executive team on status of the project
    • Help to build the Li-Cycle team to support project execution (i.e., discipline engineering, engineering management, construction management)

Mechanical Quality Assurance Specialist

The Quality Assurance and Quality Control Construction Specialist will report to the Construction Manager and will be assigned QA/QC activities for on site construction and off site equipment fabrication verification after said equipment arrives on site. QA/QC support will be dedicated to Li-Cycle’s Commercial Hub#1 project in Rochester, NY. The ideal candidate is expected to pro-actively oversee the implementation of the Li-Cycle’s owner’s QA/QC program, to include the means and methods to properly store and protect equipment and materials, oversee the non – destructive test measures taken by subcontractors and maintain documentation of inspection of work executed by the subcontractors. Throughout the installation/ construction process the QA/QC Construction Specialist will assist engineering group on reviews of shop drawings of equipment and installation of materials and equipment  as per plans and specifications.  A broad knowledge across all aspects of QA/QC related documentation civil, structural, and architectural engineering designs for industrial manufacturing facilities is required.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Support the Li-Cycle North American Hub project team in management, supervision, and oversight of the QA/QC aspects of contracted equipment suppliers, material suppliers, and construction contractors.
  • Provide support for QA/QC related subjects to Li-Cycle’s technical engineering and construction teams during project planning, execution, and delivery.
  • Be familiar with submittal procedures and ability to ensure that a submittal is complete.
  • Review of equipment supplier engineering and shop fabrication QA/QC documentation for accuracy and adherence to specifications.
  • Review construction contractor RFP’s and bid proposals for QA/QC conformance.
  • Support engineering group in the requests for information (RFI) responses for QA/QC conformance.
  • Interface with Li-Cycle management, business, and engineering teams to resolve project related issues.
  • Provide field support as needed for project engineering and construction teams overseeing the QA/QC aspects of performance and documentation of the GC’s non-destructive test programs, concrete slump & break testing, flange torqueing methods, materials certification and equipment storage and maintenance logs.
