Associate Director: Codes and Standards Advocacy and Decarbonization Research Projects | 2050 Partners | Remote

2050 Partners is seeking a capable, mission-driven Associate Director to join our team in a fully remote role. In this role, you will provide strategic direction and day-to-day oversight of all aspects of assigned codes and standards advocacy and building energy system research projects. We are looking for a team-member who is passionate about understanding clients’ pain points and delivering pragmatic solutions, dedicated to our mission of meeting state, federal, and international carbon mitigation goals, and enthusiastic about growing with our dynamic consulting firm.

Responsibilities include:

  • Be a trusted advisor for our clients by providing pragmatic advice based on defensible data and analysis
  • Provide strategic leadership for national and state appliance standards, building codes, and test procedure rulemakings and supporting research
  • Oversee all aspects of multiple projects including technical research, client engagement, subcontractor identification and management, and external stakeholder engagement including:

o   Planning and directing primary and secondary research related to energy-using equipment and building systems

o   Procurement of energy-using equipment and laboratory testing time

o   Laboratory and field investigation of energy-using equipment

o   Opportunity creation for coalition-building through strong relationships with external stakeholders

o   Coordination of review of legal and regulatory documents

  • Ensure the highest level of quality in all project deliverables, including reports and presentations
  • Supervise and support professional development of internal team members
  • Contribute to business development and proposal writing
  • Contribute to internal strategic planning and operations support

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ability to learn and apply new skills across interdisciplinary fields, including technology assessments, engineering, economics, statistics, and policy
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical field(s) is required
  • 12+ years relevant experience including technology research, management consulting, regulatory affairs
  • Experience related to major energy end-use product categories and strategies including but not limited to: water heating, HVAC, appliances, and/or electric vehicle supply equipment.
  • Experience related to demand response and flexible demand strategies
  • Experience or exposure to energy policy/law, including appliance standards and/or building energy codes
  • Outstanding analytical and conceptual skills
  • Highest ethical standards
  • Project management and staff supervision track record
  • Consulting experience and comfort leading and providing strategic direction for complex projects involving multilateral negotiations and decisions desired
  • Ability to collaborate well with people at all levels within an organization
  • Great initiative, creativity, and curiosity; work well both on your own and as part of team
  • Strong practical implementation skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Confidence, enthusiasm, humility, and discretion
  • Willingness for regular travel
