Residential Decarbonization Advisor

Summary/Objective 

In 2024, Abode will be providing comprehensive programs to utilities and government agencies throughout New England to help accelerate the adoption of heat pumps, by providing outreach, education, consultations, and technical assistance to contractors, homeowners, community advocates, and other stakeholders. We are currently seeking to fill out our team in MA and CT and so plan to hire a number of Residential Decarbonization Advisors. This is a terrific opportunity for someone adept at translating technical jargon into actionable, useful advice to help realize the climate impacts of electrification. 

Responsibilities 

Reporting to a Program Manager and working closely with Abode’s decarbonization team, this position will include some or all of the following responsibilities: 

  • Learn about and stay current with recommended system design and installation standards The Residential Decarbonization Advisor will stay current with evolving standards for the recommended design and installation of heat pumps, so as to be in a position to provide fact-based, useful advice to homeowners and contractors.
  • Provide virtual consultations to residential customers considering decarbonization solutions, with an initial focus on heat pumps

The Residential Decarbonization Advisor will help homeowners understand the capabilities and limitations of heat pump technology based on their home’s attributes and their goals for considering such systems. Consultations may range from helping people to understand the basic pro’s and con’s inherent to such systems all the way to helping them better understand considerations to size, design, and install such systems so as to maximize their benefits. The Advisor will utilize Abode’s proprietary quote review tool to consult virtually with residential customers to compare and evaluate equipment options for adopting heat pumps. 

  • Engage with heat pump contractors, distributors and manufacturers

The Residential Decarbonization Advisor may meet up to two to three days per week either virtually or in the field with companies involved in manufacturing, distributing and installing heat pumps, both to provide them with information about related programs and incentives, as well as to learn more about industry needs. As appropriate, the Advisor may work to help troubleshoot issues that arise on particular projects. 

  • Other tasks as assigned by your Manager

Abode is in the midst of growing multi-faceted programs for state agencies and utilities utilizing a comprehensive blend of education, technical assistance, and financial incentives to accelerate the adoption of residential heat pumps. The Residential Decarbonization Advisor will not only be able to rely on the deep bench Abode has built both internally and with strong partners to

help deliver these services, but will also be in a front-row position to help apply day to day learnings to improve the processes and tools used to achieve these programs’ desired impacts. 

Qualifications 

Strong candidates for this position will bring most, if not all, of the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or at least 4+ years of relevant experience. 
  • Demonstrated aptitude for learning industry jargon and technical content and translating it into clear, concise, digestible information.
  • Previous experience in an advisory, educational, or customer service role providing repeated advice or customer service to residential customers.
  • Strong technical expertise in residential building science and energy efficiency. Experience with system design and installation for heat pumps would be ideal.
  • Familiarity with navigating government or utility incentive programs.
  • Previous experience working with home improvement contractors.
  • Effective oral and written communications skills; both 1:1 and in making presentations to groups. Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese as well as English would be a plus. 
  • Demonstrated aptitude working with software such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and Salesforce.
  • Calm, even temperament suited to meeting people with different needs and backgrounds where they are.
  • Adaptable, flexible, collaborative team player that brings a positive can-do attitude.
  • A self-starter, able to proactively manage competing demands and changing schedules to complete tasks in a timely and diligent manner.

Compensation and Benefits 

This is a full-time, exempt position with total compensation targeted between $70K and $80K, depending on relevant skills and experience. The Residential Decarbonization Advisor will work primarily out of the employee’s home office and reimbursed for mileage/travel expenses. Program Coordinator, Decarbonization Services

Summary/Objective 

In 2024, Abode will be providing a comprehensive program to utilities and government agencies throughout New England to help accelerate the adoption of air-source heat pumps, by providing outreach, education, consultations, and technical assistance to contractors, homeowners, community advocates, and other stakeholders. We are currently seeking to fill out our team in MA and CT so plan to hire a number of Program Coordinators who will work alongside Program Managers and Residential Decarbonization Advisors to coordinate and administer delivery of these services. This is a terrific opportunity for someone who wants to bring their strong communication, analytic and project management skills to help realize the climate impacts of electrification. 

Responsibilities 

Reporting to one of our Program Managers and working closely with Abode’s decarbonization team, this position will include some or all of the following responsibilities: 

  • Conduct outbound engagement to heat pump contractors to build program capacity and improve contractor participation 

o Calling and emailing contractors 

o Scheduling onboarding and check-in meetings 

o Identify engagement opportunities and organize participation 

o Attend in-person events as needed 

  • Actively manage and respond to email and phone inquiries related to program needs from customers and contractors 

o Connect customers and contractors with the correct services 

o Respond to and provide ongoing support for customer and contractor issues o Maintain response service levels and document resolutions in Salesforce 

  • Maintain and update program databases and customer management systems

o Conduct regular reviews of contractor certifications and follow-up to obtain renewed documents 

o Coordinate contractor engagement with program Residential Decarbonization Advisors 

  • Support program staff through a variety of administrative tasks and document/material creation 

o Collaborate with the program team and stakeholders daily 

o Assist with the development of program materials and collateral 

  • Engage and collaborate with community-based organizations promoting heat pump technology 
  • Provide ongoing reports to internal and external stakeholders 

o Ensure that monthly reports are generated and distributed to the program team

  • Help improve and evolve the program 

o Adapt to ongoing evolutions of program needs 

o Innovate with stakeholders to improve program delivery 

o Continue to grow in technical and program knowledge

  • Previous experience working in a fast-paced office environment in a project management or communications capacity.
  • Strong aptitude for working with or learning software such as Google Workspace and Microsoft Office. Experience with customer relationship management software such as Salesforce would be a plus.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills. Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese as well as English would be a plus.
  • Calm, even temperament suited to meeting people with different needs and backgrounds where they are.
  • Adaptable, flexible, collaborative team player who brings a positive can-do attitude.
  • A self-starter, able to proactively manage competing demands and changing schedules to complete tasks in a timely and diligent manner.

This is a full-time, exempt position with total compensation targeted between $55K and $65K, depending on relevant skills and experience. The Program Coordinator will work most of the time out of their own home, with some travel as needed (with mileage/travel expenses reimbursed) to work with other staff in Abode’s Concord office and/or to attend events or meetings in MA or CT.
